HOW IT STARTED
While we have always been a huge fan of celebrating the special moments in life… like a lot of people, we get a little excited come October, November, and December when those months seem like one holiday after another.
But our pumpkin fever really took off when we visited Burt’s Farm in Georgia and came face to face with a field full of 100 pound pumpkins. YES! 100 pounds! The little ones in the family were amazed and now almost 20 years later, visiting that farm at least a dozen times over the years is some of their favorite memories. While everyone doesn’t have that kind of pumpkin patch nearby, just imagine the young kids in your life or in your neighborhood when they see your pumpkin display. Priceless!

welcome fall with an abundance of pumpkins
Ahhh, just thinking about fall makes us happy. Temperatures starting to drop. . . shorter days and just a little less chance of heatstroke here in Florida. . . fall can’t come soon enough for us! Thankfully, pumpkins can last throughout the fall season, especially when kept away from water and too much sun. We tested a bunch of Walmart pumpkins in the Florida heat and left them outside from October until February and we were shocked at how many lasted the abuse! The trick is not to drop them.
As long as the pumpkins aren’t dropped, they should last you well into November. The ones that weren’t carved for Halloween can be repurposed for your Thanksgiving decorations.
While we reference Walmart as a source to get pumpkins, your local pumpkin patch or produce stand is also a great option too.
So no matter if you fill your porch with softer colors of the speciality pumpkins or you mix in fall flowers or Halloween decorations, we would love to see what you come up with! So please share your decorated porches with us, and together we’ll all help usher in fall!
